The wind turbines proposed along our shore are 1,050 ft in height vs the lighthouse which is 172 ft high. They will be four times higher than the lighthouse. The turbines will be 10 miles out to sea from the lighthouse and 9 miles out from Holgate. This is the closest of all the turbines to be installed along the NJ coast.
There was Standing Room Only for this
Event on July 26th.

Offshore Wind: What You Will See
From the 4000 page Construction and Operating Plan submitted by Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind company that will construct the wind farms.
From a presentation by Chris Placitella, an attorney at Cohen, Placitella and Roth in Philadelphia, who actually read the report. See below for a video of his recent plea to the NJ Legislature.

357 turbines each 1046 feet tall (the tallest ever constructed so there is no experience with turbines this tall. NJ will be the first and thus suffer the learning to be done by the wind companies and our government,
Approximately 36 miles end to end visually affecting over 65% of the NJ coastline
The height of the turbines at 1046 feet are higher than the Washington monumnet and 4 times higher than our Barnegat Lighthouse.
The Visual Impact Analysis in this report says that the turbines will be visible from the coastline Ocean City, Sea Isle City, Avalon, Surf City, North Beach, Harvey Cedars and Barnegat Light. Also primary visibility in Stone Harbor, Wildwood and Diamand Beach with potential visibility in Seaside Park, Seaside Heights and Berkely Heights.
ON Page 127 lists addltional locations of visibilty with a "high magnitude of visual change with adverse visual impacts:" LBI Arts Foundation, Beach Haven, Great Bay, Brigantine, the Ocean Casino in Atlantic City and the boardwalk in Atlantic City.
Also "There will be significant areas of potential inland visibility" from the bays and rivers. The Sight Sound, the London Sound, Townsend Sound, the Carson Sound, the Manahawkin Bay and Barnegat Bay, Cape May Wetlands among others.
Page 89 numerous other areas in. the inland bays: Margate, Ocean City, Sea Isle City, Wildwood, Surf City, Avalon, Ship Bottom, Barnegat Light and Seaside Heights. "Potential blade visibity for the majority of inland bays and adjacent inland shoreline."
Turbines will be seen for up to 40 miles inland. "Turbines will cause adverse visual impacts in multiple location and even the navigation lights will become the focus of your attention and could change the character of the nighttime skies off the coast of NJ forever".
When the project is complete the turbines will be see as far north as Belmar.
Photosimulations; One of the areas analyzed was Beach Haven Historic District" The view will be dominated with a large array of turbines with high magnitude impact."
The nightime skies will be dominated by flashing red lights from the top of the turbines.
The height of the turbines, the flashing lights and the rotator movement will make the turbines the dominant view at night from the beach
Great Bay Blvd, 1.5 miles inland. Turbines will be focal points of view. If you are iin a boat you will have to turn away in order to eliminate it from your view.
"The ocean view will be changed from undeveloped to substantially developed."
In Atlantic County the view will "change in the viewer's perception of the ocean as pristine to very different." They will be visually dominant from the AC Convention Center.
At Margate the Lucy Elephant "The turbines will be a significant draw of your attention."
The Economic Impact.
The Environmental Impact Statement predicts a 15% reduction of tourism in NJ.
More than 100 million people visit NJ every year and the Jersey Shore is the #1 reason.
Tourism generates more than 17.8 Billion dollars in tax revenue in Ocean, Atlantic, and Cape May Counties.
These counties have more than 100.000 tourism jobs.
